Glossary of "Plant Biology (1st ed.)" by Graham et al. (2003)
- A term applied to structures that perform a similar function but have different evolutionary origins. The tendrils of peas and those of grapevines both provide climbing support, but those of peas derive from leaves while the tendrils of grapevines are modified stems.
