RNA interference (RNAi)
Glossary of "Life (9th ed.)" by Sadava et al. (2011)
- A mechanism for reducing mRNA translation whereby a double-stranded RNA, made by the cell or synthetically, is processed into a small, single-stranded RNA, whose binding to a target mRNA results in the latter's breakdown.
Glossary of "Introduction to Conservation Genetics (2nd ed.)" by Frankham et al. (2010)
- Small interfering RNA molecules involved in defences against virus infections and transposons.
