Description

  • Endemic subspecies distributed in Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu in Japan.
  • Distributed among southern minor islands, inland, and mountains of northern part of Hiroshima Pref.
  • In Miyajima Island, living along the streams, widely distributed from lowland to montane region.
  • Breeds from April to May in slowly flowing underground water on banks of montane stream.
  • Larva with ability to metamorphose even without feeding and starts land life.
  • In Miyajima Island, we can see young frogs after metamorphosis jumping among litter on forest floors in July.
  • In non-breeding season, we can see among the litter on forest floors along the streams.
