Definition

Glossary of Plant Systematics (1st ed.) by Simpson (2006)

  • A schizocarp in which (generally two) carpels of a single, unlobed ovary split during fruit maturation, the capsules developing into unit mericarps and attached to one another via a stalklike carpophore, e.g. Apiaceae. (fruit type)
