特徴

• 常緑樹で，葉が対生．類似種にネズミモチがある．
• 鳥が果実を食べることで種子が散布され，逸出している．
• ネズミモチの果実が長い楕円体になるのに対して，トウネズミモチは球形に近い点が異なる．また，トウネズミモチは葉が大きく，葉の裏から透かした際に葉脈が目立つ傾向がある点でも区別できる．

Distribution

• Native to China. Introduced to Japan in the Meiji era (1868-1912). Planted in many places, sometimes escape.

Notes

• Evergreen, leaves opposite. A similar species is the Japanese privet L. japonicum.
• Seeds are dispersed and released when birds eat the fruits.
• The difference between the two is that the fruits. Those of L. lucidum are nearly spherical, while those of the Japanese privet(L. japonicum) are long and oval.
• Leaves of L. lucidumare larger than those of the Japanese privet(L. japonicum), which tend to have more prominent veins when viewed through the underside of the leaf.
