• 植物体全体に星状の鱗毛がある．
• 葉身は倒卵形で無毛．しばしば虫こぶができる．
• 葉腋から総状花序を伸ばし，上部に両性花，下部に雄花をつける．
• 東広島キャンパスでは工学部に多く植栽されている．

Distribution

• Distributed in Japan, Korea (Jeju Island), Taiwan and southern part of Mainland China.
• Native in evergreen forests in Honshu (south Kanto District and westwards), Shikoku, Kyushu and Ryukyu.

• A tall evergreen tree of the hazel family, Hamamelidaceae.
• Stellate scale hairs present throughout.
• Leaf blade inverted, ovate, hairless. Often with insect galls.
• Globose inflorescences grow from leaf axils, with bisexual flowers on top and male flowers on the bottom.
• At the Higashi-Hiroshima Campus, many of the trees are planted in the School of Engineering.
