Wrinkled Frog (English) / Tsuchi-gaeru (Japanese 日本語)

Taxonomy

Animalia > Chordata > Vertebrata > Amphibia > Anura > Ranidae > Glandirana > Glandirana rugosa

Description

  • Distributed in Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu, Oki Is., and other islands. Outside of Japan, Korea, northeastern China, and southernmost Primorskii, USSR.
  • In Hiroshima Pref., distributed among southern mountains with altitude and minor islands.
  • Breeds from April to September in still water in rice field, ponds, ditches, and sometimes in pools of dry riverbed. (Maeda & Matsui, 1999)
  • Some larvae pass the winter, and metamorphose next year.
  • Often confused with Fejervarya kawamurai (Dicroglossidae).
  • In non-breeding season, we can see near or in the pool of water.
