three-item statements analysis
Glossary of "Cladistics (2nd ed.)" by Kitching et al. (1998)
- A method of cladistic analysis that focuses on the smallest unit of relationship, the three-item statement, rather than on characters. The observed features of taxa are coded in terms of the relationships they imply, that is as three-item statements, and the optimal cladogram is that which maximizes the number of accommodated three-item statements.
